As part of the student blogging challenge, I wrote a post for BAD 2009 on the topic of climate change. Climate change is happening because we are releasing too many greenhouse gases. The most common greenhouse gases are: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapor. Whenever you watch TV, play a video game, use the air conditioner, listen to the stereo, turn on a light, wash or dry your clothes, use a hair dryer, use a dish washer, ride in a car, or microwave a meal, you are releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. To reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that get released into the atmosphere, people could do some of the following: walk or ride your bike, carpool, plant trees, or recycle cans, bottles, plastic bags and newspapers.
The top 5 countries that are emitting the most co2 are: Qatar - 64.14 tonnes/year, Kuwait - 38.26 tonnes/year, United Arab Emirates - 32.28 tonnes/year, Luxembourg - 24.69 tonnes/year, and Brunei - 23.1 tonnes/year.
